Gateway Desktop Computer Repair – Microsoft Windows Upgrade

We upgraded a Gateway desktop computer windows 8 to windows 10 for a customer from Vaughan Ontario.

To upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 10, you can follow these steps:

1. Check system requirements: Before upgrading, make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 10, including a 1 GHz or faster processor, 1 GB of RAM for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit, and 16 GB of hard drive space.
2. Get the upgrade: Go to the Microsoft website and click on the “Download now” button to download the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant.
3. Run the upgrade assistant: Once the Upgrade Assistant is finished downloading, run it to begin the upgrade process. The assistant will check for compatibility and install any necessary updates before upgrading to Windows 10.
4. Accept license terms: During the upgrade process, you will need to accept the license terms for Windows 10.
5. Perform the upgrade: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the upgrade process. This can take several hours, and your computer may restart several times.
6. Finish setup: After the upgrade is complete, sign in with your Microsoft account and finish setting up Windows 10.

It is recommended to back up important files and data before upgrading, in case any issues arise during the process.

Microsoft has stated that the end-of-service date for Windows 10 version 1803 (also known as the April 2018 Update) is November 10, 2020. For newer versions of Windows 10, Microsoft provides support and security updates for a minimum of 18 months after the release date, after which they will no longer receive these updates.

It is important to note that while the end-of-service date means that Microsoft will no longer provide security updates and support, the operating system will still continue to function. However, it is highly recommended to upgrade to a supported version of Windows 10 in order to receive important security updates and continue to receive support from Microsoft.
